Physical Description
You're a talking floating weapon. You might be fancy and gilded, or plain and worn, but you're a still weapon.
History
Long ago someone thought it would be a good idea to make thinking weapons. While initially very successful, as their use started to expand, warrior labor unions pushed for them to be outlawed so as to maintain their market dominance. This has lead to weapons being incredibly rare.
While their making was a closely guarded secret, rumors said that the sacrifice of a living being was required.However, the exact process used in their creation is lost to time, so all know examples of them are very old.
Society
Their numbers are too few and too spread out for any cohesive society to form, instead animated weapons tend to adopt the societies of their creator's.
Animated Weapon Names
Despite most being effectively an animated phallus, most animated weapons don't have genders. Their names tend to title's given to them by their creator's or wielders.

Animated Weapon Traits
Ability Score Increase. Made for battle, your Constitution score increases by 1.
Age. While they do not age, the magic animating them tends to break down over the ages, with older examples often devolving odd quirks.
Alignment. Animated weapons have no tendancy towards any alignment, while some take on their of their first wielders, some are set in their ways from birth.
Size. Animated weapons vary in sizes, depending on the weapon. Your size is determined by your subrace.
Speed. Hovering up to 5 feet off the ground normally, you are considered to have a walking speed of 30 feet.
Blindsight. You have blindsight out to a range of 60ft, but beyond that are blind.
Telekinesis. The original makers decided that it might be useful if they could pick up things, and gifted them with a form of telekinesis, allowing them to hold small objects. You are able to cast the mage hand spell without any components, however, the hand is anchored at your hilt. It can support a number of pounds equal to 5 times your strength score. The hand is invisible.
You're a Weapon. When you take the attack action you can make attack with the weapon of the form you are currently occupying, i.e. a long sword attack if you are currently a longsword.
Also, while in the hands of a creature, you can decide to give advantage or disadvantage to their roll, but if you do, you can not attack with this feature until you flee from the prey, unless the creature is voluntary.
You gain immunity to poison and disease. You also gain a resistance to psychic damage.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.
Subrace. Animated weapons are generally separated into three categories, light, medium, and heavy.
Light Animated Weapons
Light animated weapons start off as daggers.
Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity increases by 2.
Size. As a relatively small weapon, your size is tiny.
Small and Nimble. Your smaller form increases your movement speed by 5 feet.
Medium Animated Weapons
Medium animated weapons start off as longswords.
Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity and Strength both increase by 1.
Size. A more average sized weapon, your size is small.
Commonly Used. Due to being a commonly used weapon, you have advantage when hiding in urban areas
Heavy Animated Weapons
Heavy animated weapons start off as greataxes.
Ability Score Increase. Your Strength increases by 2.
Size. As a bigger weapon, your size is Medium.
Sturdy. You hit point maximum increases by an addition 1 for every level.
Animated Ranged Weapons
Animated ranged weapons start off as longbows.
Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity increases by 2.
Size. As a ranged weapon, your size is small.
Small and Nimble. Your smaller form increases your movement speed by 5 feet.
