Talk:Rag Doll, Variant (5e Race)

Some notes about this races traits and how they could be made clearer/what problems they have.

  • Ability Score Increase. The ability score increase for the Constitution should come first and the ability score choice should be any other ability score of your choice is increased by 1. This is done so you can't just get +3 to Constitution.
  • Age. Realistically, with proper maintenance, a construct could potentially last 100's of years at most before wear and tear deactivates them, not an indefinite amount of time.
  • Size. I understand that you could potentially make a construct any size you want, but any size beyond Medium or Small drastically changes the power level of the race(tiny is very weak, large is extremely strong).
  • Inserted Mechanism. Some tools are pretty heavily and/or bulky, plus there is actually very few light weapons. This should probably just be changed to be a selection of different weapons(dagger, rapier, ect.) that you gain proficiency in, and you can choose one of them to house in your body unit.
  • Unarmored Defense. This unarmored defense is far too strong for a number of spellcasting classes as it allows them to dump Dexterity for Constitution allowing them to gain good AC and hit points. It should be changed to Dexterity.
  • Eye's Perfection. A 10 foot blindsight is gained by the rouge at 14th level while 60 foot darkvision is available on a number of different 1st party races at 1st level. Based on this, this trait if far too powerful(tremorsense included).
  • Special Engineering. It is not clear based on the formatting of this and the Hinged Limbs trait what traits correspond to it.
  • Hinged Limbs. This trait is unclear, its effects are extremely bad, and it mainly seems to have been added to the race to attempt to balance out the race, which it doesn't do too well. Besides that, how much oil is needed, how long does it take to grease a limb, and other things about greasing a limb are unclear.
  • Constructs Nature. This is a typical construct race feature except it gives you resistance to bludgeoning damage and immunity to exhaustion/unconscious conditions on top of the other general benefits of being a construct(no need to breath, sleep, eat, immunity to poison damage and certain spells, ect). Once again, a negative trait(fire vulnerability) is added to the race to attempt to balance it, except vulnerability to a damage type isn't really a good way to balance the race/trait and isn't fun or interactive for a PC to have when they get blown up. Also, no PC should be immune to being knocked unconscious, unless you are implying the race just straight up dies at 0 hp instead of dropping unconscious and making death saving throws.

The traits thematically do mostly work, but they do need to be cleaned up or fixed in various areas so the race is comparable to 1st party races.--Blobby383b (talk) 20:09, 13 June 2018 (MDT)
