Talk:Way of the Drunken Fist (5e Subclass)

So this is a cool idea, but the finak feature seems a bit op. cause it's 4 Ki for 4d12 until the opponent makes what will probably be a DC 19 8+6(proficiency)+5(wisdom, cause lvl 17 monk), maybe they get that save to resist and then a scaled down saving throw later? just think it should be tweaked a bit.

Anon: Another issue with this subclass is that you lose all benefits of it once you hit level 10. Because base monk becomes immune to poison at that point causing you be unable to self poison yourself.

Anon2: Regarding the final feature, it seems reasonably in-line with Quivering Palm. Palm is 3 ki for 10d10 damage on a successful save, instant death on a failure. This feature reaches a comparable amount of damage to palm's success damage if they fail the save 1 time; if they repeatedly fail the save, then they take more damage. Obviously, if they fail palm's save one time, they're immediately reduced to 0, so that's essentially infinite damage. The "monks are immune to poison" bit is the real killer for this subclass.

Anon3: Poison immunity seems like a problem, but I think it could be fixed with a hand-wave. The actual wording in the PHB is "your mastery of the ki flowing through you..." is what provides the immunity. If you have "mastery" of the effect, then it seems arguable that you could voluntarily allow yourself to be poisoned by a particular source, on a particular occasion, much like you can voluntarily fail a saving throw. And then you'd retain the immunity in general, but you could still pull out a flask of Old Overcoat and get pie-eyed in preparation for battle. In fact, your mastery of the ki flow might plausibly allow you to get yourself drunk without consuming any alcohol at all.
